Jet fuel missing @ Lagos Murtala Mohamed Airport

It is quite surprising to notice that the 6th worldwide oil producer (Nigeria) becomes an empty tank like 4-5 times a year, especially when this impact a major gate of the country (this includes all other Nigerian airports, Lagos remaining usually the last one to offer the last drops). When such an event happens, the country links become totally frozen, as roads outside cities are major robbers field, and eventual trains just crowded ghosts

Domestic "old" terminal becomes then like a hard-rock concert arena, with thousands stranded people yelling, when the place could support only hundreds, which is obviously not an unusual situation in any other day during peak times. International flights are usually feed with extra fuel @ airport of origin, for their return leg, and when it's not possible, they extend their Lagos route to a more friendly airport, Accra for example.

Why this situation happens ?

Well, actually, Nigeria "offers" every single drop of its oil to major companies which are deployed in the Delta, in its primary mixture. Then the country has to import back the proper chemistry to be able to feed the transport industry. Trading is then a critical issue in this case, information too. Imagine how valuable is the right information to the right trader, escaping live from Lagos !

Aviation in Nigeria remains a very sensitive business, and despite the fact the country has seen some very valuable airlines launched since around 5 years, the local environment could unfortunately destroy all efforts done in the matter.

Upcoming, Port-Harcourt, 38c, foggy, unable to land...
